Edu-Career
Choosing a career is one of the most important decisions your child will make. Their choice of career will affect every area of their life. It is important that you understand the anxiety your child faces during this period, and that you can provide them with the support they need to make the final decision.
South Africa has a 55% youth unemployment rate and those with diplomas and certain degrees are struggling to get work due to the fact that they selected something that was already flooded in the South African economy.
There are several factors that contribute to the low university/college enrolment, high unemployment and increasing school drop outs namely;
1. Schools no longer offer career guidance as part of the curriculum;
2. Learners are indecisive about what career they want to pursue;
3. Learners/parents do not have access to information regarding career choices; scarce skills, careers that are in demand, what industries are flooded, overseas career opportunities.
Understanding these factors may help learners/parents choose careers better and in turn ensure that learners don’t waste their time, money and energies pursuing the wrong studies and or career.
